Urban Canoe Trip

Saturday we headed out with Amanda, Alan, her cousin Sherry and some of Sherry's friends to the Chicago river. It was a warm beautiful day, perfect to be on the water. We had expected to travel south east toward downtown and the lake but the rental company suggested we travel north west, that it was much more scenic that way. Also we had the advantage of traveling against the current on the way out and with the current on the way back. The river is pretty much perfect for either direction as the current isn't very strong. Along the way we saw 2 Heron, a turtle, and lots of ducks and white geese. We also saw a community garden and lots of beautiful river front property. It was a trip I'd love to do again. Seems like a nice combination of urban lifestyle and nature.

Positive Energy

WHEW! How did I get so far behind!

95. Dinner with Grandpa Zera and the family. Nice to catch up with everybody. I think the best part of the day was sitting on the deck with Grandpa while we watched Bryan and Steve play Jarts. The good old fashioned dangerous kind!

96. Such a slow day at work, my patients got tons of great one on one attention and they just soaked it up. It was good.

97. Emily wanted to eat at Superdawg before she leaves Chicago so we had dinner there. Worth every calorie.

98. Dinner with Andrew, Trevor, and Josh. Great to see my cousins. Made yummy venison spaghetti.

99. Took Trevor and his roommate Garret out to dinner. Nice night and nice to see them getting back on track after a rough start to their chicago life.

100! Wendy, Stevie, and Lucas are in town from California. Super yummy dinner with them and great to catch up. Lucas is so big!

And so we come to the end of my 100 days of positive statements. A few days it was hard to come up with something good but most of the time it was pretty easy. I'm blessed with a great life with great friends and family. Some days I picked one of many positive events of the day. Some days I listed more than one. This is a good problem to have :)

I like the idea of theme blogging, it keeps me blogging, and also it keeps me from complaining. I think though I'll wait for inspiration rather than just coming up with something just to have something to blog about.

91. Took a step forward toward getting legal in IL, got my IL drivers license today. Missed two on the test but at least I passed!

92. Bryan took care of dinner, dog, everything so that I could work on Emily's going away gift. He's so awesome.

93. New haircut, loved the guy that cut it, although I don't think I'll ever find anyone like my guy in Fresno. Then Bryan and I went out for a drink, dinner, Olympics. Great evening.

94. Wedding dress shopping with Amanda and her crew. Fun stuff. Feels like we made some progress although we're far from done with the great dress search.

What! More Cops!?

Lindsey and I had a long hard drive home yesterday. Friday traffic was awful and it was almost 2 hours to get home. We had plans to get pedicures once we got back to the city which required a stop at Lindsey's to get flip flops and to my house. I'd thought ahead enough to take them to work but they fell out of my bag and I didn't put them back in. So after dealing with way more driving that we had wanted we finally parked at my house and were about to make our last stop before our highly anticipated manicures.

Suddenly ahead of us on Addison a guy who had been walking like he was drunk walked right out into traffic without even pausing and into a car. The guy bounced off the car and onto the ground. Lindsey and I took one look at eachother and took off running, desperetly trying to remember our CPR training. Before we could get to the intersection the guy was standing up and checking himself over. The driver asked him "are you ok" and the drunk guy just waved him off a couple of times and kept walking down the street exactly the way he had before the accident. The driver pulled onto the side street in front of my apartment and called 911. The ambulance was there at lightning speed but it took us a few minutes to explain to them that the person hit had taken off. They drove up the street looking for him but when they asked the only person they found that fit the descprition if he'd been hit by a car he said "no".

The driver had to call 911 again to get the cops there to take a report. Meanwhile Lindsey decided she wanted to hook up the very cute and svelte driver with her friend. We quickly came up with some ideas and sent out a couple of texts. All of this time we had been doing our best to support the shaken up driver (we never did get him name) as he had been driving with the flow of traffic during rush hour (a time when you cannot speed if you want to) and the guy had walked right out in front of him. His windshield had a huge circular crack in it. He was sure the guys head had hit it.

Of course I dreaded the appearance of the cops fearing they would be as mean as my last encounter. Actually they were two really nice, smiling a lot kind of guys. They were sure the walker had been a drunk cubs fan and they get really tired of dealing with those folks. They gave the driver some advice about his insurance and encouraged us to give the driver our info in case the walker ever did press charges. Of course we were happy to do that and invited him out for a drink to console him. He wanted to buy us a whole keg for helping him out. He took our numbers and we headed up to my apartment for aformentioned flip flops.

After a few minutes of goofing around upstairs we came back down the the cops were still there although the driver had gone along his way. We chatted the cops up a bit. They were hitting on us, asking us where we were going now and offering us a ride. (What! in the back of the police car? - No Thanks!) They did make me run all the way back upstairs so they could see my speeding ticket, they advised me to just pay the ticket and go to traffic school so that's the new plan, although they took my phone number and said they'd try to talk to the cop that gave it to me.

So we finally made it to pedicures which were awesome and literally around the corner from my house. (Mom we'll have to go there sometime.) Amanda had joined us by that point and we all had a nice visit. Walking Lindsey back to her car he got a text from the driver, we're going to try to get a drink together tonight. What an adventure!
